    COST ENGINEERING

The Hidden Profit in Your Trash: Why Your Gross Profit is Bleeding Out

Most business owners I meet are obsessed with "Top Line" revenue. They celebrate a new sale, but they ignore the hole in their pocket where the profit is falling out.

If you are running a business on a 10% net margin, every €1 you waste in costs requires you to generate €10 in new sales just to break even. Stop trying to out-sell your inefficiency.

    The "5% Silent Killer"

You might think a small price increase from a supplier is "no big deal." You are wrong. A mere 5% increase in supplier costs can impact your bottom line by a staggering 15%.

If you simply "shrug this off," you are voluntarily handing over your retirement fund to your vendors.

    The Margin Pricing Trap

Here is where 90% of businesses fail the math test. Let's say a product costs you €175 to make or buy. You want a 35% profit margin. Most owners multiply €175 by 1.35. That gives you a price of €236.25.

This is wrong. That only gives you a 26% margin. You have already lost money before you made the sale.

    The Incrementum Protocol

You must use the inverse. Subtract your target margin (35%) from 1 (which equals .65). Divide your cost (€175) by .65.

    Correct Price: €269.23.

If you get this wrong, you are working for free.

    The Fix: The Supplier Audit

You must audit your suppliers immediately.

    Ask for the Discount

Every time you place an order, ask. If you don't ask, the answer is always no.

    Confront Increases

If they raise prices, get competitor quotes immediately. If you have a relationship, ask them to match the lower quote. They usually will.

    Check Your Scrap

Scrap and returns are not "part of doing business." They are evidence of a broken process or lack of training.
