SALES PSYCHOLOGY
The 'Risk' Reversal: Why Your Guarantee is Too Weak
Why do people hesitate to buy? It isn't always price. It is Fear. Fear that the product won't work. Fear that they will look stupid. Fear of regret.
In every transaction, there is risk. Usually, the business forces the Customer to carry 100% of the risk. "Pay me now, and if it doesn't work, too bad."
To dominate a market, you must flip this equation. You must take the risk off their shoulders and put it on yours.
The Power of "Better Than Risk-Free"
A standard guarantee is: "Money back if not satisfied." That is boring. It has no teeth. A Powerful Guarantee removes the fear of buying.
Example: The Domino's Promise
They didn't say, "We hope it arrives hot." They said: "Delivered in 30 minutes or it's FREE." They put their own revenue on the line to prove their confidence.
How to Construct It
Look at your service. What is your customer terrified of?
- Accountant: They fear fines. Guarantee: "We pay any penalties caused by our error."
- Contractor: They fear delays. Guarantee: "We pay you €100 for every day we are late."
When you remove the risk, you remove the barrier. Yes, you might have to pay out occasionally. But the increase in sales will outweigh the cost by 10 to 1.
